| Born from the failures of those served to protect, the Silver Lake is a place of darkness and melevolent beings. Held beneath the glimmering mists created by the protection magics of the Champion of Elysium are extraplanar creatures from the Ethereal, Astral, and Shadow planes.
Long ago a rift was torn open connecting the Material plane with those surrounding on it on the Great Wheel and giving a pathway to those creatures into our world. Creatures unknown to this world began creeping about, striking fear into the local dwellers and causing most of the wildlife to flee from their once peaceful home. Stories began of evil spirits haunting the dark forests, though most ignored them as childhood fairytales and nightmares. Though the cause of these were known to a select few; those who were ultimately the cause of the shadowing of the valley and the blood of hundreds upon thousands.
The magi did what they could to keep the invaders at bay, but by the time they noticed that planar rift had been created, it had grown beyond their control and the flood of evil soon engulfed the entire valley. The Champions of Elysium did what they could, however the gates had already been destroyed and any measures that they could have used were moot; the damage had been done and this world had been lost. They used what magic they had available to set up protections, ensuring that the creatures would never escape the valley and that (hopefully) the rift would not expand beyond it's borders.
As the sun rises over the southern oceans a glimmer is cast off of the mist that floats above the valley. As night falls you begin to hear the bellows and screams of the creatures trapped within the mist-valed Silver Lake. | |
