Cresthaven, Defenders of the Span Empty
PostSubject: Cresthaven, Defenders of the Span   Cresthaven, Defenders of the Span EmptyFri Apr 16, 2010 1:54 am

Cresthaven was originally just a trade city, much like Keldaerin, that sat near the shores of the Silver Sea and the Crested Bay. The shores south of the bay were too dangerous to land ships near and, up until very recently, your average trade ship was not allowed passage into Far Point. This made Cresthaven one of the only safe harbors for ships looking to trade on the eastern coast.

However after the second Dark War the population of Crestfall, the area from the Silver Sea to the Red Passage (a point of less than a day’s journey from mountain ridge to ridge), felt that they were too vulnerable to attacks. They were bordered on the north and south by enormous mountain chains, while to the east was only water. The only way in or out of Crestfall was the Span so at that point they began construction of the most impressive force of defense, only surpassed by the dwarves of Deepholme. A wall one hundred feet high at some points which reached from peak to peak, turning the Red Passage into what is now known as the Mountain Span. At intervals of every other mile towers were built to house a troop of soldiers that would guard these sections constantly.

Though this gave the citizens behind the wall comfort, the defenders of the people felt that they could do more. With the safety of the people in their hands they began to research the best combination of offense and defense, and soon they came across a small group of soldiers on the far north boundaries of Crestfall. These soldiers were mixing their martial abilities with those of the local mages, creating a special type of warfare that would imbue sword and spear with arcane might. These skills were brought back to the senate of Cresthaven and immediately put into action. After years of research, practice, and training, eventually a special group of soldiers were formed known as the Warmages of the Crested Sun. These were the ultimate defenders of the freedom and peace of the people within the Crest.

Unfortunately, the warmages have yet to travel past the Span and protect those outside of Crestfall. Despite the hundreds of thousands of deaths at the hands of the Drow during the second and third Dark Wars, the arcane soldiers have never felt the need to sacrifice the safety of their people for those outside. Because of this, Cresthaven has fallen off as the sole harbor of trade on the eastern coast and instead ships have changed their routes to the gnome town that has been created in the mountain ridges of the Spired Coast. Despite the lack of import, the people of the Crest have learned to live solely by their own means and have become rigid in their duties. From the beginning every citizen of the Crest is tasked with their role for the rest of their life; each participating in the delicate balance of efficiency and chaos that exists behind the wall.
