| Crestfall is a place where every person has a specific task that they are assigned to almost from birth. Some are farmers, some are smiths, and some are servicemen. However, the select few who show promise are tasked with the defense and protection of the people behind the Mountain Span (a stretch of narrow land in between two mountain chains, across which an imposing wall had been erected); these are the Warmages of the Crested Sun. This was the environment that Wren grew up in, with both her mother and father being a part of this elite organization. Wren showed a remarkable gift at an early age and started her training, under her father’s close watch, at the age of seven (a full three years before nearly every other student in her class). She bloomed quickly and showed an incredible thirst for knowledge, which only increased her power and abilities. However, unlike every other student or warmage for that matter, Wren did not have to spend months, or weeks, or days, or even hours studying and practicing the arcane. Rather, she was able to copy almost anything that she saw. Also, while most students excelled at a chosen field of magic, Wren was proficient in every field that caught her attention. Her abilities at first were adored by her parents and praised by her teachers, though after a few years of training the young magi’s talents came to a sudden halt. She seemed to detach from her classmates and teachers, and soon her own parents.
Eventually Wren stopped going to her classes and instead journied outside of her town to Cresthaven. There was kept the largest collection of arcane spellbooks on the entire continent of Illdarin. This is where she spent her days and nights, often times having to be gathered up by her mother and brought back home, only to spend the rest of her time locked within her room until morning.
Deep inside, Wren felt that she was being held back by the people around her; those that were jealous and afraid of her innate abilities. Her fellow students were envious that she was so more advanced than them, as were her teachers that they could not keep their lessons advanced enough for her. Her parents were afraid of their own daughter; fearful that they would be forgotten in the shadow of the greatest warmage the Crest had ever seen! At the age of thirteen, Wren decided that there was nothing more that she could learn from staying within the Crest, so she embarked on a journey that would take her to every corner of Illdarin.
She traveled to Far Point (home of the grey elves) across the Black Waters, onwards to Silverwind (where she was able to unravel the protections that so many druidic masters had spent hundreds of years to set in place) through the Whispering Valley, and across the Great Divide and below to the city of Deepholme (where she observed the elemental connection of the shamans) within the Undermountain. Through her travels she gained many items of intense creation that she has since drained of their energies, although some she has seen a reason to hold onto; whether she senses a special meaning within them or she is just unable to unlock their secrets…yet. From scrolls holding spells, to rods and staffs and wands imbued with power, she has collected (and subsequently destroyed) every item of the arcane, and even divine, that she has crossed.
However, throughout her journeys these last twelve years there is one place that has yet availed her. Rumors have spread from coast to coast of a collection of great knowledge and power where articles and items have been hidden away for nearly a thousand years; the Great Library. This immense collection has been her ultimate goal since she first heard of its possible existence. In the meantime, her roots as a defender of the weak and innocent have not let her stray far from her trainings. Along the way from city to town and from crypt to temple, Wren uses her vast knowledge of the arcane arts to dispatch any creatures that she feels would cause intentional harm to those that cannot defend themselves. This has brought her across the Grey Fields slaughtering gnolls and orcs, and through the deep Murks making the travels of gypsies and traders safe from goblins and ogres.
Now, her travels find her on the western boarders of Keldaerin, where arcane magic is not something that is fluently studied, though the way of the divine has shown promise through the Knights of Kord and the Clerics of St. Cuthbert. Now, new finding have brought her to the harbortown of Rudstow, where she hopes to follow the path that will eventually lead her to the discovery of ultimate and unlimited power.
