Some information was recently brought to my attention, and it aggravated me enough that I feel I have to bring it up here. By now most everyone should know that Street Fighter X Tekken was released. I was fairly excited by this initially (although I was planning on waiting for Tekken X Street Fighter personally). THEN I watched a video review by Angry Joe. For those of you who don’t know who that is, Angry Joe does video reviews of games, and I am a long-time watcher/advocate of his. I don’t always agree with what he has to say, but his reasoning is sound and his words are informative....

Everybody loves sandbox video-games – Running around with a stolen car in Grand Theft Auto, building giant phalluses in Minecraft, stabbing templars in Assassins Creed, buying valuable real-estate in Fable. And everybody wants to transition that freedom of choice and adventure to their tabletop games.... Except the Game Master.

You've constructed an entire world full of lush environments, historical points of interest, and territories for enormous clans to fight over. And chances are, your players will only see 2% of anything that makes it to pen and paper. More likely...

First of all, before I begin, I’d like to apologize to my fellow Dragon Fisters, as well as anyone who has been following us. It’s been almost 3 months since I’ve made a post due to a lot of personal events in my life. Trust me, it’s not easy working a full time job with a girlfriend who lives an hour away, while at the same time trying to make plans for going back to college full time and helping two family members through car accidents, while simultaneously taking care of a sick two year old puppy with an intestinal tract issue…for example. Anyway, I’m back, I’m ready to go, and I’m going to...

I play Dungeons & Dragons. More specifically, I play Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition. That is what I grew up on, and that is what I am most comfortable with, both as a Game Master and as a player. I have dabbled into other versions of D&D (primarily 4th) and have also done a bit of GURPS (however, not nearly as extensively as I would like). When it comes right down to it though, my default home base is, and perhaps always will be, D&D 3. And that frightens me.

It frightens me because there are a lot of really awesome things out there that I would like to try. Different...

You can't click twice on a gaming website before reading about the next edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Anything from "It's going to be the greatest thing ever" to "This is the worst idea in the history of tabletops." Mostly though, the discussion has been about what people want and don't want to see in the future system – What they like and don't like about the system they are currently playing. Here lies my biggest complaint with gamers. Why are YOU too stupid to play the game how you want?

Every time someone talks about what they hope...

My gaming is no secret, and as much as I would love for all of my friends to roll dice with me, they don’t. I have several who have never and will never play any sort of pen and paper game. They have played RPGS and various types of FPS. I have had friends dress up in costume and go to Ren Faires where they make up characters but have also never played D&D.
Every time I explain I am going to my bi-weekly (lately its monthly) game I get the same question, “Is it like a board game?” and when I answer with no it’s a pen and paper game I am met with blank stares. The next question is always...

I've heard of Game Masters described as story tellers, who work with the players at the table to create a dialogue that will eventually evolve into the tale of an epic journey. I've heard of Game Masters as a vile creature of the Underworld, who is tasked with destroying the will of the players at the table in a struggle souls.

Is a Game Master inherintely good – there to guide the characters along on their journey? Is a Game master inherintly evil – there to lead the characters to their death?

On one hand, the GM who helps his players and...
